Left behind

“Left Behind” is a visual meditation on stillness, solitude, and the quiet aftermath of departure. In a world that urges motion forward, elsewhere, always I remain. It is origined from a deep-rooted inertia born of grief, of belonging, of something unnameable.

This work explores the emotional topography of those who stay behind while others leave in search of new horizons. It unfolds in a barren land, emptied by time, where only the sea remains a maternal presence echoing the amniotic, offering
refuge in its rhythm, and peace in its vastness.
The characters do not seek to be seen or saved. They exist in the liminal space between memory and becoming, surrendering to the landscape rather than resisting it. In this surrender lies a strange form of power: the ability to remain, to be with
what is left, and to find beauty in the residue.

Everyone leaves eventually.
Some in haste, others in hope.

I stayed. Not out of fear, but out of quiet necessity.
The land no longer waits for anyone,
yet here I am waiting without asking for return.

The sea dissipates the body.
A maternal shield, it cradles the fragments

of a self unspoken.

Time here doesn’t pass — it accumulates,
layering silence over emotion,
salt over memory.

I learn to belong to what remains.
To let go of motion, of striving,
of the pressure to arrive somewhere.
There is a strange kind of peace
in being left behind —
when you stop chasing presence,
and simply begin to exist.
