BUERLANGMA Capsule 5: A Bold Fusion of Heritage and Innovation for SS25 Collection
The collection merges powerful themes like Desire, Power, and Degenerate Peace, blending cultural symbolism with cutting-edge design inspired by nature, history, and tradition.
On Friday, September 13th, 2024, BUERLANGMA, the visionary Beijing-born fashion house co-founded by designer Qiqi Yuan, Crystal Wang, and supermodel Yuan Bo Chao, took London Fashion Week by storm with the unveiling of its highly anticipated SS25 Capsule 5 collection. The brand, renowned for its bold and visually striking creations, once again delivered an unforgettable showcase that solidified its position at the forefront of contemporary fashion.
In just four years since its founding, BUERLANGMA has rapidly risen to prominence, collaborating with over 200 stars and celebrities, and winning the admiration of fashion icons and media alike. The name “BUERLANGMA” is symbolic—”BUER” stands for uniqueness, while “LANGMA,” inspired by the Tibetan name for Mount Everest, represents the brand’s ambition to reach the pinnacle of fashion.
For the SS25 season, BUERLANGMA presented a collection divided into five interconnected themes—Desire, Power, Degenerate Peace, and Vold. Each segment delved deep into the relationship between nature, human culture, and historical influences, blending the past and future through a lens of bold creativity. One of the standout features of the collection was a series of masks inspired by traditional Manchu ethnic clothing, showcasing the brand’s commitment to fusing cultural heritage with cutting-edge design.
Qiqi Yuan’s design philosophy, rooted in themes of bravery, freedom, and personal rights, was on full display throughout the collection. The SS25 line also saw the expansion of BUERLANGMA’s creative partnerships, with three designers and artists from diverse disciplines collaborating to enrich the collection. Their contributions added layers of artistry to the garments, accessories, and artworks, further underscoring the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of fashion.
Drawing inspiration from Yuan’s personal memories, the collection incorporated elements like clothing techniques reminiscent of Chinese origami, a nod to the rich festival traditions and collective memory of modern China. Each of the five themes featured its own distinct story, with narratives subtly interwoven throughout the collection. The “Power” theme, for instance, drew from Rococo influences to explore how nobility once dictated fashion trends across entire continents, providing a thought-provoking reflection on the evolving relationship between power and style.
Qiqi Yuan herself remarked on this transformation, stating, “Hundreds of years ago, fashion was decided by the nobles. Today, fashion is no longer entirely determined by one person or organisation with power. Such a huge disparity makes us feel that this is the best manifestation of the vitality of fashion. Nowadays, fashion is no longer exclusive to a certain class but a story that flows through everyone.”
The runway show also marked a special moment in celebration of the 40th anniversary of London Fashion Week. Models initially graced the stage wearing oversized black coats, which were dramatically removed to reveal intricate, delicately designed dresses beneath—a powerful symbol of fashion’s evolution over the past four decades.
BUERLANGMA’s SS25 collection was more than just a fashion show—it was a statement. The bold designs, rich cultural symbolism, and striking visual storytelling captivated the audience, reaffirming BUERLANGMA’s status as a leading innovator in the global fashion landscape.
As the lights dimmed and the final looks glided down the runway, it was clear that BUERLANGMA had not only showcased a collection but also a new peak in fashion expression, cementing its place as a pioneer in modern design.
