South to Sunset: A Celebration of Cultural Confluence, Feminine Energy, and Creative Kinship.
South to Sunset is a visual and narrative journey born from a deeply personal
place—my own experience of finding safety, support, and a nurturing creative
community after moving to Milan. When I arrived in Italy three years ago, I was met
with a kind of warmth I hadn’t expected: a quiet, steady presence of women—friends,
artists, strangers—who held space for one another. That energy changed me. It
inspired me to give something back.
This project is my tribute to that experience. It’s a reflection of the feminine energy
that made me feel seen, safe, and inspired—an energy I now try to channel into every
shoot I direct. Whenever possible, I intentionally build teams of women or who
identify as women—especially queer women—because their voices, perspectives,
and leadership are still so underrepresented in the creative industry. South to Sunset
was created by such a team: powerful individuals with roots in South Asia, the Middle
East, North Africa, Northern Europe, and Italy.
The photos are more than images—they are offerings. Together, we explored shared
textures: headscarves, jewellery, spices, language, and gestures that subtly link our
cultures. But the essence of the project is not about the objects. It’s about the
atmosphere—the way we listened to one another, made space, co-created, and
existed side by side with openness.
Rather than centering resistance or tradition, South to Sunset is about what happens
when we simply allow ourselves to be—together. It’s an invitation into a space
beyond borders, where creativity thrives on connection, not conformity. In a world
often marked by division—of gender, race, language, and belonging—this work is a
quiet vision of something softer, stronger, and shared.
We are not here to prove anything. We are here to feel, to create, and to honour the
threads that tie us to one another. South to Sunset is a celebration of that kind of
beauty—the kind born not from spectacle, but from sincerity.
We are beyond borders. We are together.
