Riccardo Vallone and Vittorio Fregni

Where are you from, and how much does that place live in what you make?

We are two designers from Emilia with similar background and a shared passion. We decided to study fashion design at Iuav, which is where we completed our initial training and where we met and began collaborating. Built on strong creative synergy, our work evolves through a careful observation of both design elements and meticulous attention to detail in garment construction. Beyond the professional partnership, our work is centered on the human aspect, which we developed during our university years.

What is the first thing you created that you are still proud of today?

The first piece we envisioned while designing the collection was the dress, a garment that epitomizes and is central to both the narrative of the project and our aesthetic identity. This collection marks the starting point of a reflection that merges our interest in tailoring with an aesthetic tied to the themes and character of the uncanny.

Is there a project you have been sitting on for a while that you are finally ready to make real?

Recently, after completing a period of training and apprenticeship, we’ve been reflecting on the possibility of starting our own project. Our vision is to create a space, similar to an atelier, where we can truly put our work at the center. We would like to break away from this imagery-focused trend, which is often focused purely about communication, in order to bring the focus back to the garment itself and its relationship with the wearer.

What does the fashion and design industry need to change, urgently, in your view?

In our view, as mentioned before, the fashion world has recently become heavily reliant on image rather than product, shifting the focus from how things are to how things appear. If we could change something, we would love to bring back a deeper focus on the garments themselves and the direct experience between clothing and the body.
