The Gen Z protests are spiralling around the world, from the riots across France over the poor high school conditions and the youth unemployment and exam paper leaks in India and to anti-corruption protests in Serbia ousting the president from the elections.
In Paris, the streets are burning. Photographer Bram van Dijk has documented numerous protests over the years, and on October 17 and 18 he witnessed an unprecedented level of police violence, with tear gas and stun grenades deployed against young protesters fighting for a better future. Cars are on fire. “ACAB” (all cops are bastards) is graffitied everywhere. Riot police’s shields are splattered with paint as they violently charge towards protesters. Men in hoodies are looting wine shops.
Here is a selection of photographs he captured.
